The world celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing

On July 16, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins lifted off from Launch Pad 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on a journey to the Moon and into history. Four days later, while Collins orbited the Moon in the command module, Armstrong and Aldrin landed Apollo 11’s lunar module, Eagle, on the Moon’s Sea of Tranquility, becoming the first humans to set foot on the lunar surface. The fifth cycle of the Geoffrey Bawa Award for excellence in Architecture was launched on the 22nd of July 2019 at the reconstructed de Saram House on Ward Place, Colombo 07.  This year’s Award commemorates the 100th birth anniversary of the illustrious architect. Four cycles of the Awards were held in 2007-08, 2010-2011, 2013-2014, and 2016-17.
