Get to know your lecturer – Azmah Nihar, Visiting Lecturer, Visual Communication

I'm a visual communications designer with a passion for a cat rescue. (She’s also the brains behind Kindred! @kindredcmb)

Who is your hero, and why?

I don't have one hero. I take inspiration from a lot of women around me.  My mother is a massive source of inspiration because of her resilience. Manal, an amazing children's book author and speech therapist - who is also my support system and Pushpi - whose passion is a huge source of inspiration.

If you could live anywhere else, where and why?

Even though this country has so many issues, I don't think I can live anywhere else. But if I had to move it would be London. Simply because of the amazing experience I had when I visited.

What is your biggest fear, and why?

Spiders and failure. But I'm re-learning not to let the fear of failure stop me from trying to do my best at everything. That it is okay to fail because it teaches me to be present and grateful. It helps improve whatever I'm doing and knowing it’s okay to fail allows me to take more risks.

What motivates you to work harder?

Knowing that what I'm doing is making a difference; even if it is for one person or one cat.

What is your favourite thing about your career?

That as a graphic designer, I'm not limited.  The scope of what is possible as a designer is so vast especially with it being recognised more as a legitimate career now.
