AOD alumni Amesh brings #TheNewLocal movement to new waters

Christian Seiffert & Vishnu Wickramawardane - representatives from the Cultural Affairs section of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany- paid an official visit to AOD to meet with award-winning designer and AOD alumni, Amesh Wijesekera. Amesh’s DNA sustainability at his core. He’s been globally recognised for the gender fluid celebration of Sri Lanka’s colours, culture and craft.

Amesh's fashion career was kick-started as the winner of the 1st Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Sri Lanka MBFW Emerging Talent Runway. This win launched his exposure to eventually showcase at the Berlin Fashion week and the MBFW fashion week in Tbilisi. The latter was with the support of the German Embassy in Colombo regonising his place in the global fashion arena. Since then, he has been no stranger to the spotlight with his vibrant brand, AMESH, lighting up runways, music videos, and the pages of popular magazines such as Vogue, Elle and Business of Fashion.

Today, Amesh forges yet another mark of global recognition and commendation for his embodiment of 'The New Local' - AOD's introspective New campaign - with his gender fluid celebration of Sri Lanka’s colours, culture and craft.

During their visit, the representatives also met with AOD senior faculty Prabath Samarasooriya, Damayanthi Wedage and Professor Thomass Atkinson, whose conversations solidified the long-standing relationship between AOD, the German Embassy, and, by extension, Sri Lanka's creative community.
