DESIGN FOUNDATION : Academy of Design Sri Lanka

DESIGN FOUNDATION

Design Foundation Programme begins students on creative training ahead of other formal avenues [starting from O/L (16+ years) ]. The AOD Foundation Programme builds universal creative skills beneficial to multiple disciplines and utilized in creative professions.

Over this one-year course, students mix fun and experimentation with skill-building.  Each session, students will build on the skills and concepts from the previous session to develop further as creative thinkers.  Learning to “see” the world with heightened attention to detail enables students to build hand-drafting skills (an indispensible tool).  This progresses to include experimentation with media, materials and construction.  Finally, we learn to shape our understanding of the world – and our art – through abstract and schematic thinking to complete the cycle.   Beginning with drawing and painting and working up to abstraction, mixed-media and idea-generation, the Foundation curriculum covers design fundamentals which introduces talented newcomers to a level of skill and preparedness for further studies in design.

“In both life and art, it is important to stay stimulated and add new experiences to our repertoire.  What I ask of my students is that they will learn to be avid and engaged, taking inspiration from the world around them.  Tomorrow’s designers are made from today’s curious minds. ”
