Jewellery and Accessory design is an enormous industry which has a huge potential in Sri Lanka owing to Sri Lanka’s luxurious earth blessed with countless precious stones. The Jewellery Design programme at AOD is a thorough study-course which taps the needs of the Jewellery industry through its well-structured curriculum.

The programme is structured to suit the convenience of interested students and working professionals. Students begin with basic skills in Conceptualization, Drawing, Professional Illustration and Design Execution. Designers are taught to visually communicate their ideas using several media to suit industry requirements. The programme also gives an introduction to Figure Drawing, Still Life Drawing and History of Art and Basic Principles of Design in order to give the students a comprehensive understanding of the subject.

Students will then move on to specific subjects in Jewellery such as Jewellery illustration, rendering techniques, geometrical drawing, Gemology, Trend Forecasting, Jewellery Retailing and Marketing, Digital Design for jewellery (Illustrator, Jewel CAD and more) and in the workshop they will acquire the ability to understand the properties and characteristics of materials for metalwork and jewellery-making.

We give our students the opportunity to experiment with a range of materials, techniques and processes which enable them to gain firsthand experience along with exposure to the many areas of the jewellery sector such as Gemmology, Metallurgy and Art history in addition to the designing and manufacturing processes. Students are also taught how to do research, develop technical drawings, to be sensitive to their environment and understand the importance of our heritage.
