AOD L.I.F.E
Get yourself some L.I.F.E.!
The student run acidity initiative aptly called L.I.F.E. is indeed the life of AOD! Students, backed by the AOD, recognized that the creative people who attend design schools need a creative outlet outside of their coursework, and devised an active social calendar and a magazine for all students to enjoy and get more involved in AOD L.I.F.E.
AOD L.I.F.E. magazine captures the important events and projects of the campus, student competitions/awards and useful previews in to the local and international design arenas. The Active L.I.F.E. student club brings together fun and interactive activities such as Movie Nights, Juniors vs. Seniors Quiz Night, Beach theme Party and Celebration of Traditional Sri Lankan Festival: Avurudu Uthsavaya. Stay tuned!

Latest from AOD L.I.F.E. – AOD Movie Night – March 2011
Dog Town and Z Boys; the Birth of Extreme
Directed by Stacy Peralta | Written by Stacy Peralta and Craig Stecyk | Starring Sean Penn, Jay Adams and Tony Alva – AOD premiered its series of Movie Nights with a great cult-movie of the last decade. Dogtown and Z-Boys is a 2001 documentary film using a mix of film the Zephyr skateboard team shot in the 1970′s by Craig Stecyk and recent interviews. It tells the story of a group of teenage surfer/skateboarders and their influence on the history of skateboarding and surfing culture.
AOD LIFE team chose this movie because it’s an inspirational movie that captures the way a group of teenagers commit to their passion in life, work towards their dream, and succeed. Being a designer is no easy task – especially in Sri Lanka where the creative culture is still flourishing and pursuing your dream in the world of design takes courage to be different, steadfast commitment, heaps of passion and a touch of madness. Therefore, the words of the skateboarder Tom Sims from Dogtown, are no less true for AOD designers than they were for the Z-boys -“They were unconventional and they didn’t care if they got judged well.”
